The Battle of Hattin took place on 4 July 1187 near Tiberias, between the Crusader states and Saladin’s Ayyubid forces. Saladin’s army killed or captured most of the Crusader forces, crippling their military strength. The victory enabled Saladin to recapture Jerusalem later that year and helped prompt the Third Crusade.
