The Battle of Isandlwana took place on 22 January 1879, following the British invasion of the Zulu Kingdom. Around 20,000 Zulu warriors overwhelmed approximately 1,800 British, colonial, and African troops, despite the defenders’ superior firearms. More than 1,300 defending troops were killed, and the Zulu victory helped defeat the first British invasion of Zululand. Source
