The Battle of Kosovo took place on 15 June 1389 between forces led by Serbian Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović and Ottoman Sultan Murad I. Fought on Kosovo Field near present-day Pristina, it was one of the largest battles of the Late Middle Ages. Both armies suffered devastating losses, and both rulers died. Although the outcome was inconclusive, Serbian military strength declined, and several Serbian principalities became Ottoman vassals in the following years.
