On 13 September 1759, British troops supported by the Royal Navy fought French forces on a plateau outside Quebec City during the Seven Years’ War. The battlefield took its name from Abraham Martin, a farmer who had owned land there. British commander James Wolfe and French commander Louis-Joseph de Montcalm both suffered fatal wounds during the British victory. The battle paved the way for Quebec’s capture and helped shape Canada’s future. Source
