The Battle of Yarmouk unfolded over six days in August 636 near the Yarmouk River, southeast of the Sea of Galilee. Rashidun forces under Khalid ibn al-Walid defeated the Byzantine army sent to halt their advance and recover lost territory. The victory broke Byzantine control over Syria and accelerated the Muslim conquest of the region.
