The Council of Clermont brought together Catholic clergy and laypeople from 17 to 27 November 1095 in Clermont, Auvergne. Convened by Pope Urban II, it addressed church reform, regional disputes, and efforts to limit violence among nobles. On its final day, Urban called for military aid to Eastern Christians, launching the movement that became the First Crusade.
