On November 21, 1620, corresponding to November 11 in the Old Style calendar, 41 male passengers signed the Mayflower Compact aboard ship in Provincetown Harbor. The signers agreed to form a political community and obey laws enacted for the colony's common good. The agreement became Plymouth Colony's first governing document while affirming loyalty to the English king.
